About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

Brighton and Hove Albion secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light in their Premier League clash on Saturday. The match was decided by a solitary goal from Yankuba Minteh (GAP +2.3%) in the 58th minute, which proved enough to separate the two sides in a tightly contested affair. The game began with both teams showing cautious approaches, reflecting their recent form and league positions. Sunderland, who had made four changes to their lineup, brought in Granit Xhaka, Brian Brobbey, Christopher Rigg, and Chemsdine Talbi, while Luke O'Nien, Enzo Le Fée, Nilson Angulo, and Eliezer Mayenda were left out. Brighton also made four changes, with Danny Welbeck (GAP +2.6%), James Milner (GAP +3.4%), Lewis Dunk (GAP +0.8%), and Yankuba Minteh coming into the starting eleven. The first half saw limited clear-cut chances, with both defenses holding firm. However, Brighton's tactical setup, which included the experienced James Milner in midfield, allowed them to control possession and dictate the tempo. The breakthrough came in the second half when Minteh capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the decisive goal. Brighton's defensive solidity was highlighted by the performances of Lewis Dunk and Bart Verbruggen (GAP +2.4%), who ensured Sunderland's attacking threats were kept at bay. Despite Sunderland's attempts to find an equalizer, including the introduction of substitutes Eliezer Mayenda, Luke O'Nien, and Dennis Cirkin, they struggled to break down a well-organized Brighton defense. This result sees Brighton continue their push for a higher league finish, while Sunderland will need to regroup as they aim to improve their standing in the remaining fixtures. The win was crucial for Brighton, as it helps them maintain momentum in the latter stages of the season. Post-match reactions highlighted the importance of Minteh's goal and the solid defensive display by Brighton. Sunderland's manager will need to address the lack of cutting edge in attack as they prepare for their next challenge.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
